Pop Sweep: June 18, 2016...

It's time to roll out the first of this week's 'music sweeps', checking out the notable songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start out on the pop side of things, then later move on to the latest in rock, R&B, country, and dance....

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), radio airplay from all formats, and sales (like iTunes and Amazon MP3), Drake's "One Dance" is on top for a fourth non-consecutive week...

The top debut of the week at #74 is the fourth radio single from Selena Gomez's Revival album, "Kill Em With Kindness". The track is already up at #18 on the Mainstream Top-40 radio list. The other three singles, "Good For You", "Hands To Myself", and "Same Old Love", all reached the top 10 here. Grade: C

Country singer Kelsea Ballerini flies in at #92 with "Peter Pan", the third single from her debut album. The first, the #1 country hit "Love Me Like You Mean It", peaked at #45 on the Hot 100. Grade: C+

Sam Hunt moves in at #93 with "Make You Miss Me", the fifth song from his Montevallo debut to make the chart. The other four all made the top-40, with the crossover smash "Take Your Time" topping out at #20. Grade: B

Last week Dierks Bentley and Elle King leaped on to the country chart up at #32 with "Different With Girls". Now they reach the pop list at #98. Grade: B-

Another country artist, Chris Lane, enters at #99 with his addictive "Fix".

Singer/songwriter Daya, who is in the top-5 as a featured vocalist on the Chainsmokers' "Don't Let Me Down", slips in at #100 with "Sit Still, Look Pretty". Grade: B-

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Justin Timberlake climbs to #1 with "Can't Stop The Feeling!". It becomes his eighth leader on this list...

This week's "Pop Pick of the Week" belongs to the pairing of Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez, who land at #36 with "We Don't Talk Anymore", from his debut album Nine Track Mind. Grade: B

Former One Directioner Zayn drops in at #37 with "Like I Would" (another former "pop pick"). It's the follow-up to his solo debut "Pillowtalk", which peaked at #1 on this list. Grade: B

Yet another former "pop pick", "Brand New" from singer/songwriter Ben Rector, pops on to this format at #40. It's been to #12 on the Adult-pop list. Grade: A

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, "Can't Stop The Feeling!" also jumps to the top, racking up his third #1 on this list after "Mirrors" and "Not A Bad Thing", while the aforementioned "We Don't Talk Anymore" comes in at #35...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening" radio chart, Justin Bieber holds on top for a sixth week with "Love Yourself", and there are no new entries...

I'll be back with the latest on rock radio...
