Songoftheday 6/9/16 - Spend your money on the corner now, know you've gotta save some for the shoeshine boys...

"All She Wants Is" - Duran Duran
from the album Big Thing (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #22 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's song of the day comes from Duran Duran, who had placed their ninth top ten pop hit in the U.S. in the winter of 1988 with "I Don't Want Your Love". The second single from their Big Thing album was the experimental dance-rock of "All She Wants Is". Written by the band's Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, and John Taylor, and sporting a special effects-laden video featured latex casts of the band, or may I say "Duranequins"...

"All She Wants Is" became the second top-40 pop hit from Big Thing in America in February of 1989. The song was a huge club hit, reaching #1 on Billboard's dance chart for two weeks, while it climbed to #24 on their Modern Rock radio chart. Internationally, the single went to #9 in their native Britain (their biggest hit there from the album), #4 in Italy, and #10 in Ireland.

Here's the 12" single remix done by Shep Pettibone that topped the dance chart for a couple weeks (their biggest club hit), which drew a lot from the then-hot Latin freestyle genre...

...and the Euro House mix, which takes the song in a completely different direction (and totally cribbed for Bardeux's "I Love To Bass")...

During their Big Thing tour, the band 'mashed up' the song with their earlier hit "Planet Earth"...
