Rock Sweep: June 18, 2016...


Round two of this week's 'music sweeps' is up, sampling the songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine. This time up it's the newest on rock radio...

On their main Rock Airplay chart, the Red Hot Chili Peppers rule for a fourth week with "Dark Necessities"...

Grammy-winning alternative rock king Beck, who had landed a huge one-off single with "Dreams" last year, returns at #26 with his latest, "Wow". Grade: C+

Indie-folk band the Head and The Heart are back at #48 with "All We Ever Knew", from their forthcoming Signs Of Light album. Grade: B-



Hard rockeres Devour The Day take their top-20 Mainstream Rock hit "Lightning In The Sky" to the main list at #50. Grade: C+


And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the harder-edged Mainstream Rock radio panel, Volbeat remains on top for a fifth week with "The Devil's Bleeding Crown"...

The second single from experimental metal act Deftones' Gore album, "Phantom Bride", strolls in at #26. The first, "Prayers/Triangles", peaked at #8. The single features Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell. Grade: B-


 Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, the Lumineers spend a second week at #1 with "Ophelia", while the aforementioned "Wow" from Beck jumps in at #32...

"Ain't No Man", the current top-5 hit on the Triple-A chart from the Avett Brothers, crosses over to this format at #38 and nabs my "Rock Pick of the Week". Grade: B


Another top-10 Triple-A hit, "Casual Party" from Band of Horses, also finds itself here at #39. Grade: C+


Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, "Dark Necessities" moves to the top...

The sole newbie at #28 is Margaret Glaspy with "You & I". Grade: B-
