Songoftheday 7/5/13 -Bet you got a good gun bet you know how to have some fun, and then you turn it around on me because I'm better Than the rest of the men...

Culture Club - "Miss Me Blind"
from the album Colour By Numbers (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12

Today's Song of the Day is by the gender-bending British pop group Culture Club, whose sophomore album Colour By Numbers had always given them their first #1 pop single in the US with "Karma Chameleon" as well as a top-10 hit with "Church Of the Poison Mind".  The third release was the lite dance track "Miss Me Blind", with Nile Rodgers-esque guitars and future top-10 singer Jermaine Stewart ("We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off") on background vocals...

"Miss Me Blind" became the band's third top-10 pop hit in the States from the album. It went to #6 in the Canada and #17 in Australia. As a double-sided single (kiddies, ask your parents), it peaked at #10 on the dance chart in Billboard, while on the  adult-contemporary (easy-listening) format it would top off at #12. And no doubt helped by Stewart's backup vocals, the single would be their only top-10 R&B hit, peaking at #8. "Miss Me Blind" would turn out to be their last top-10 pop hit.

The comment about "Miss Me Blind" being their last US top 10 made me do a double take, as I would have bet money "Move Away" went top 10, but it stalled at #12. Love this song, and I completely forgot about Stewart doing background vocals. When I think of Colour by Numbers, I think of Helen Terry. RIP Jermaine.

Yeah "Move Away" ALMOST made it. Actually the shocker is that MMB went top-10 R&B, over DYRWTHM.
