Songoftheday 7/4/13 - Well I've seen so many things, I've been all over the world I've had ups and downs...
Dwight Twilley - "Girls"
from the album Jungle (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #16 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10
Today's Song of the Day is by Tulsa-born rock singer Dwight Twilley, who met fellow Okie and guitarist Phil Seymour and formed the Dwight Twilley Band in the 70s. In 1975 they scored a top-20 pop hit with "I'm On Fire", Twilley and Seymour parted ways a few years later. Both released records in the 80s, with Seymour first hitting the top-40 with "Precious To Me", while Twilley's mojo didn't get going until 1982, which a top-20 rock hit "Somebody To Love". With his third solo release, Jungle, Twilley found himself back in the top-20 with his ode to "Girls", with Tom Petty providing background vocals. The video was issued in a censored and uncensored version, complete with titties and boys behinds to please everybody...(NSFW)
"Girls" went top-20 in April of 1984, and would be his last time in the top-40. It did much better on rock radio, claiming one week at #2. Dwight would have one more minor hit with "Little Bit of Love" that same year. His former musical partner Seymour passed away from cancer in 1993, while Dwight is still kickin' it on the circuit.
