Rock Sweep: August 3, 2013...
Hey gang, time for round two of today's "chart sweeps" sampling the songs making the radio charts in Billboard magazine, and now I've got the latest on rock radio..
On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, Imagine Dragons won't let go of the top spot for an incredible 21st week with "Radioactive"....
Rocketing on the chart at lucky #13 is heavy metal act Avenged Sevenfold with "Hall To The King", the title track to their forthcoming sixth studio album. Since the all-format airplay chart (originally called "Rock Songs") debuted in 2009, the band has sent four songs into the top-10, with "Nightmare" going to #3 in 2010...

Another anticipated release from an upcoming album is my "Rock Pick of the Week". Kings of Leon return at #22 with "Supersoaker". They've had a couple top-10s on the "big" rock chart with "Use Somebody" going to #2 in 2009...
New York art-rock duo MS MR debut at #39 with "Hurricane", which also moves up to #25 on the modern rock format. It's already been a top-40 single in Germany and Belgium...
The last entry on the main rock chart at #50 is indie-folk group Delta Rae, whose "If I Loved You" has already gone to the top-10 of the "Triple-A" radio panel...
...and now on to the radio format subcharts...
On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Pop Evil remain at #1 for the fourth week with "Trenches", while the aforementioned "Hail To The King" leaps in all the way at #9.....
The other debut on the list at #40 is the second side-project from members of the neo-metal act Disturbed (after David Draiman's band Device at #28 with "You Think You Know"). Fight Or Flight features guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren and their first hit is "First Of The Last". (warning, this video has every RWNJ conspiracy theory down to the vaccination bullshit. For real.)
Meanwhile, on the Modern Rock/Alternative format, the Neighbourhood spend a ninth non-consecutive week at the top with "Sweater Weather", while Kings Of Leon pop in at #26 with "Supersoaker" and Avenged Sevenfold arrive at #37 with "Hail to The King"...
The other entry at #39 is British alt-rock band the 1975 with their second US hit "Chocolate". Like their last, "Sex", this is about a vice, since chocolate is a slang term for marijuana over there...
At the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") chart, Englishman Frank Turner gets his first #1 single with "Recovery"...
Besides the aforementioned "Supersoaker" which comes in at #30, the other debut at #29 is "Follow My Feet" by Texan indie-rock band the Unlikely Candidates....
Over on the harder-edged Active Rock radio panel, Five Finger Death Punch with Rob Halford (of Judas Priest) top the list with "Lift Me Up", as the aforementioned Avenged Sevenfold track comes in at #10, and the Fight Or Flight record is in at #39...
The other new entry at #40 is Stone Sour with "Tired"...
Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock chart, Pop Evil's "Trenches" reaches the top for it's first week on this format, while "Hail To The King" comes in all the way at #6...
The other debut at #24 is progressive rock band Beware Of Darkness with "Howl"...
That's it for this week's rock excursion...I'll be back in an hour and a half with the newest on R&B radio. Rock on!
