Robbed Hit of the Week 7/22/13 - Jeffrey Osborne's "We're Going All The Way"...
Jeffrey Osborne - "We're Going All The Way"
from the album Stay With Me Tonight (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #48
This week's "robbed hit" is by soul singer Jeffrey Osborne, who had established a solid solo career apart from old band L.T.D. by 1984 with his second album Stay With Me Tonight, which spun off two top-40 pop hits with "Don't You Get So Mad" and the title track. After starting the year with a track that made the top-10 on the dance chart and R&B chart, "Plane Love", Osborne released the big ballad from the album, "We're Going All The Way". Written by powerhouse husband and wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, it took his vocal stretch proven on "On The Wings Of Love" and seemed destined to be the big love song of the spring...
But while the song was big on adult-contemporary (easy-listening) radio stations, peaking at #6 as his second top-10 hit at that format, and also reaching the top-20 of the R&B chart, "We're Going All The Way" stalled under the top-40 on the pop chart. However it remains a staple on nightly "Delilah"-style radio programs and wedding receptions.
