twostepcub's music chart for July 6, 2012...

Hey folks, the end of the week is here, and it's time for my weekly list of my top-100 tunes. This week Carly Rae Jepsen stays on top for a fourth week, while newcomers Grouplove (pictured above) jump into the top-10. Former big hits by the Zac Brown Band, Calvin Harris, M83, and Alex Clare drop off my chart, while tracks by Kelly Clarkson, Katharine McPhee, and Jamiroquai make the biggest leaps (moves of 10+ places marked in red). Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artist names to go to their official website. Reeeed Robin Yummmmm!

The highest new song this week belongs to Matchbox Twenty, who are coming back with their first full studio album in ten years, North. The preview single, "She's So Mean", take a page from the Train playbook and the fun, rollicking, and witty number comes in at #83...

Speaking of Train, the San Fran rockers follow up their top-10 hit "Drive By" with the Spanish-flavored track "50 Ways To Say Goodbye", with a video featuring the Hoffster, at #86....

New York alt-rock trio fun. follow their Billboard #1 (and #2 on my list) "We Are Young" with the epic Queen-like "Some Nights" at #96...

San Francisco dance music singer Laura LaRue is back with her third top-20 club hit in the US (after "San Francisco is My Disco" and "Un Deux Trois"), this time with producer/mixer Lee Dagger, who is half of one of my favorite remix artists Bimbo Jones, at #98 with "Capture Your Love"...

Coming in at #99 is newcomer Thomas Rhett, who is the son of singer Rhett Akins, who topped the US country chart in 1996 with "Don't Get Me Started". Thomas' first hit is already in the top-20 on Billboard's country chart, and it's "Something To Do With My Hands"....

and at #100 is John Legend, who tops the Billboard Adult R&B list this week with a song from the movie Think Like A Man and features a rap break from Atlanta's Ludacris, "Tonight (Best You Ever Had)"...

..Meanwhile, special mention goes to British chanteuse Ellie Goulding, who redefines "sleeper hit" as her single "Lights", which was released first in England back in March of 2011 (where it even missed the top-40 there), and now in its 27th week makes the Billboard Hot 100 top-10, comes back to my chart at #75...I am so stoked about its popularity right now..

have a great weekend! Up tomorrow will be the five-part "sweeps" of Billboard's pop, rock, R&B, country, and dance charts, and Sunday will bring recaps of the album chart and the new singles in the UK. Cheers!

I love fun.'s "Some Nights" single and album. It's funny that you call it Queen inspired. When I hear it I think of REO Speedwagon.

I could see the REO connection, but I gravitate more towards Queen because of the harmony vocal structure - like "One Vision" and "Radio Gaga"...
