Album Sweep: July 21, 2012 Part Two...

Hey guys, it's time for the second half of this week's "album sweep" of the new records hitting this week's Billboard magazine Top 200 chart. Just like in part one, there's some American Idol coming at you.

Debuting at #123 is rapper Prodigy, who was half of the seminal duo Mobb Deep, and his latest in a trilogy on CDs, H.N.I.C. 3 (Head Ni**a In Charge)....

Coming in at #127 is the American Idol Season 11 Top 10 Highlights album with tracks from each of the top ten finalists on the show...

and what's a week's "album sweep" without a little death metal? South Carolina's Nile obliges with their newest at #131, At The Gate Of Sethu...Sethu looks up as a Hindu diety by the way...

Back into more mainstream rock territory, longtime supergroup Asia are back with the third consecutive album featuring all four original members - John Wetton, Carl Palmer, Steve Howe, and Geoff Downes.  The CD, XXX, arrives at #134, and I'm quite liking it, sounds like early 80s Genesis...

Canadian electronic hardcore outfit Abandon All Ships brings their moshpit danceathon to #142 with Infamous...it's an offbeat mix of pop and growling parts...

the last of the American Idol Season Highlights EPs to debut on the big chart is by fourth-place finisher Hollie Cavanagh, who was born in England, and now lives in Texas. Her booming voice places her at #178 with the Walmart exclusive...

and finally, in time for the Independence Day celebrations, the gospel collective of Bill & Gloria Gaither and Their Homecoming Friends come in at #195 with God Bless The USA; A Salute To The American Spirit, featuring patriotic songs sung by the Christian gospel group...

Well that's it. Pretty much my biggest recommendation by far is the Asia CD, but if you're Idol inclined, five bucks on Hollie's EP at Walmart is not a bad deal either.
