Songoftheday 7/20/12 - I can't stand to see you sad, I can't bear to hear you cry...
Marshall Crenshaw - "Someday, Someway"
from the album Marshall Crenshaw (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #36 (two weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 4
Today's song of the day is by Michigan retro-rocker Marshall Crenshaw. Born in Detroit but raised in its suburb of Berkley, and after a stint as John Lennon in Beatlemania, Crenshaw released his debut album in 1982. His first single, "Someday, Someway", was actually recorded by rockabilly artist Robert Gordon in 1981, and was a minor hit (#76)...
Crenshaw's version - pretty much the same, but with more fleshed out guitars, and his higher register gives it more of a Buddy Holly quality..
The song also made it to #25 on the rock radio chart, while the self-titled album made the top-50. However. it would be the last time Crenshaw would grace the pop chart, though he's had a few pretty good albums out after that (especially 1983's Field Day). More recently, his title song for the movie Walk Hard was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2007.

At the turn of the century, British group S Club 7 redid the song for their TV show..
Up tomorrow: the return of a band who had trouble naming their horse.
