7 of the 70's: 7/26/12...
Hey guys, it's time for this week's "7 of the 70s", bringing you seven golden nuggets from the sunshine decade. This time out we'll hitch a ride to 1970....
Dawn - "Candida"
from the album Candida (1970)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3
The 'original' Tony Orlando & Dawn couldn't use his name, and didn't as yet have Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson, but rather studio singers including the song's writer, Toni Wine. But it was miles ahead of the kitsch the act would become as well.

Stevie Wonder - "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours"
from the album Signed Sealed Delivered (1970)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3
The grown-up "Genius" at his most joyful. In my opinion, the pinnacle of his "pop" years (before his "classic album" years).
Bobby Bloom - "Montego Bay"
from the album The Bobby Bloom Album (1970)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #8
Laid-back Blue-eyed calypso from the guy who co-wrote "Mony Mony".
Bobbi Martin - "For The Love Of Him"
from the album For The Love Of Him (1969)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13
Early 60's vocal performer makes a comeback with this dramatic housewife's tale that would fit perfectly on a Mad Men episode.
The Supremes - "Everybody's Got The Right To Love"
from the album Right On (1970)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21
The post-Diana lineup of Jean Terrell, Mary Wilson, and Cindy Birdsong bring you an "It Gets Better" song straight to you. Listen up, haters!
Blood Sweat & Tears - "Lucretia Macevil"
from the album Blood Sweat & Tears 3 (1970)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #29
While Chicago brought the horns to rock, Blood Sweat & Tears brought them down to funk up this mofo. Songs like this make me wish for my white '67 Bel Air with the black fur carpet back.
Neil Young - "Only Love Can Break Your Heart"
from the album After The Gold Rush (1970)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33
I have to admit my first hearing of this song was the Saint Etienne electronic version, but Young's sweet, vulnerable take on his song works so much better with this.
That's it for now, stay tuned - later tonight I'll bring you 8 more from the 80's...
