Rock Sweep: July 14, 2012...

It's time for part two of today's "Chart Sweeps" of Billboard magazine's weekly radio and sales charts. This time out we've got a sampling of the new tracks hitting the Rock Songs, Alternative, and Triple-A (hipster-rock) charts...

On the Rock Songs list, the top new entry comes from the English group Muse (pictured above), with a single selected as the official song of this summer's Olympic Games in London, "Survival", at #39...

Debuting at #48 is metal group Otherwise with "Soldiers", timed for the Independence Day week in the US...

and debuting at #50 is Oklahoma City-based Aranda, with their fourth rock hit, "Satisfied", which they've released on their own (give them a little love for that)...

Meanwhile, over on the Alternative/Modern Rock radio chart, the top new song belongs to Rome (Ramirez), who recently fronted a reunion of band members of the seminal reggae-rock group Sublime, which had a top-10 album as well as a top-5 rock hit with "Panic". Rome is back with his debut solo single, "Dedication", at #34...

French electronic-rock group M83 follows up their top-5 hit "Midnight City" at #37 with "Reunion" from their excellent album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming....

And at #40 is newcomers the Royal Concept with "Gimme Twice", and its delightfully retro...

and over on Triple-A radio, the highest debut belongs to White Stripe/Raconteur/Dead Weather frontman Jack White, with the third single from his first solo set, Blunderbuss called "I'm Shakin'" at #23...

Mainstream rockers Matchbox Twenty sneak onto the "hipster list" with their new one, "She's So Mean" at #29....and the more I hear this, it's a dead ringer for Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up The Sun", am I right?

...while at #30 is British critics' darling Michael Kiwanuka, who won the prestigious BBC Sound of 2011 last year, with "I'm Getting Ready" from Home Again, another record I'd recommend, it reminds me of a male Tracy Chapman....

Next up, the newest R&B singles out there... Rock on!
