Album Sweep: July 21, 2012 Part One...

It's time for part one of this week's "album sweep" of the new records hitting Billboard magazine's weekly sales charts. Most of this weeks new arrivals come courtesy of American Idol, so get ready for a lot of karaoke...

The top entry this week belongs to Chris Brown, who has his second #1 album in a row with Fortune, though it only sold about half as much as 2011's F.A.M.E. did. And like Usher's recent #1, Lookin' 4 Myself, it splits between R&B numbers and sugary disco confection.

(Click below to see the rest of the post)

At #14 is rapper Flo Rida, who's been a big singles seller over the past few years, and his latest, Wild Ones features three big top-40 hits, including the title track..

Walmart has started to market highlight CDs of American Idol contestants from last season, and five of those hit the chart this week, along with a season compilation. The highest, appropriately, is from the winner, Phillip Phillips, at #25...

Australian Christian church Hillsong has sold a ton of albums worldwide, and their Live: Cornerstone debuts up in the US top-40 at #32...

Reggaeton superstar duo Wisin & Yandel dip a bit, as the followup to two top-10 albums Lideres comes in at #42, even with Jennifer Lopez guesting on the lead single "Follow The Leader"..

Progressive metal band Periphery, though do much better on their newest effort, as their sophomore album Periphery II is their first in the top-half of the chart at #44...

Phoenix-based metalcore band The Word Alive (which sounds like a gospel outfit, no?) place their second album at #50 with Life Cycles...

The next American Idol album to debut this week is third-place finisher Joshua Ledet from Louisana, with American Idol: Season 11: Highlights (EP) at #59...

Under that at #64 is Idol fifth-place singer Skylar Laine with her highlights EP...

...and at #77 is the eleventh season runner-up Jessica Sanchez with her Highlights EP...

Hmmm. admittedly not much to recommend, save for the fun and disco-filled Flo Rida album, and Chris Brown's has some tracks you may like, and if you're an Idol fan, I don't need to steer you towards those EPs already. Kind of a blah week, really.

That's it for part one....later on today I'll bring you a sampling of English sellers with Brit Sweep, and tomorrow part two of this week's "Album Sweep" will be up. Thanks for coming!
