Songoftheday 6/10/16 - I get weak at a glance, isn't this what's called romance?

"Lost In Your Eyes" - Debbie Gibson
from the album Electric Youth (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12

Today's song of the day is by Debbie Gibson, the teenage prodigal singer/songwriter/producer whose debut album, Out of the Blue, holds the claim for the youngest artist to perform, write, and produce her own #1 pop hit with "Foolish Beat", along with three more top ten singles in "Only In My Dreams", "Shake Your Love", and the title track. Counting even a fifth top-40 pop hit in "Staying Together", that racked up 64 total weeks between them in the American Top-40 - pretty impressive. Gibson was quite ready with her sophomore effort Electric Youth lined up for release just at the start of the last year of the 80's, and the first single was another ballad that the triple-threat handled all on her own, "Lost In Her Eyes". It became her biggest chart hit ever...

"Lost In My Eyes" topped the American pop chart for three weeks in March of 1989. It would turn out to be her last to make the top ten. The single also spent two weeks at #3 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or 'easy listening') radio chart (her biggest there as well). Internationally, the song went to #5 in Canada, #7 in Australia, and #34 in the UK.
