French Sweep: July 23, 2013...


Hey gang, it's time to cross back over the Atlantic to check out the songs reaching the official sales chart in France this week, as Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" pops back up to the top spot for a fifth non-consecutive week.

Claiming yet another country is rapper Jay Z, whose "Holy Grail" with Justin Timberlake jumps on to the sales chart at #40. It's his twelve appearance in the top-40, though only his seventh as a lead artist. Surprisingly his highest rank in this country was his collab with Linkin Park on "Encore/Numb" which went to #5 in 2005...

French comedian Cartman, who this year had a #2 hit with the parody song "Quand il pète il troue son slip" under the fake name of Sébastien Patoche (a play on the trad-vocalist Patrick Sebastien), is back with a "follow-up" called "La Cartouche" (the Cartridge) at #43...



Newcomers Oslo come in at #54 with her first hit single "Hold Me Down". They were the runners-up on this country's singing competition Popstars (the winner, The Mess, came in last week with "On Top")...


Dance music production act Muttonheads score their third chart hit at #64 with "Snow White (Alive)" featuring vocals by Eden Martin. They last paired in 2011 for the #20 single "Trust You Again"...


British alt-rock band Placebo, who have have great success in France, are back at #72 with "Too Many Friends". They have had four consecutive #1 albums here, and even sent "Protege-Moi" to #18 on the singles chart....


Singer Olympe, who despite having two of his songs make the charts here, managed to come up in second place on this country's version of The Voice, but the second one, a cover of the Cranberries' "Zombie", makes it in at #75 (his "Born To Die" cover from the blind auditions re-enters up at #48)....


Pink is back at #85 with "True Love" featuring British singer Lily (Allen) Rose Cooper...


DJ/producer DJ Mam's from Marseilles is in at #89 with "Hella Décalé (Remix 2013)".  It's a new version of his non-charting 2009 single now featuring Tony Gomez and Ragga Ranks...


Rapper Maitre Gims, who is enjoying a top-5 smash with "Bella", arrives at #92 with "Bavon" featuring Charley Bell..


Despite being named for a French landmark, British modern rock group Bastille took 10 weeks to make the top-100 here with their worldwide hit "Pompeii"...


French rock band BB Brunes, who got themselves a top-10 hit earlier this year with "Coups Et Blessures", is back at #97 with "Aficianado". They're my "French Pick of the Week"...


The final debut of the week at #99 is new artist Noa Moon with "Paradise"...
