Songoftheday 10/8/12 - Dark city streets twist and moan In the heat as night descends...
Juice Newton - "Heart Of The Night"
from the album Quiet Lies (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #25 (three weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 10
Today's Song of the Day is by Lakehurst, New Jersey-born country/pop singer Juice Newton. Her second big pop album, Quiet Lies, had already spun off a top-10 ("Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me") and top-20 ("Break It To Me Gently") hit in 1982. The third single from the set was the leadoff cut, "Heart Of The Night", was co-written by lyricist John Bettis, who has penned hits for Michael Jackson ("Human Nature") and the Carpenters ("Top Of The World"), and produced by Richard Landis...
The track took Juice way farther away from the country realm, and while she got no play on that genre's radio stations, she made the top-5 on the adult-contemporary (soft-rock) chart.
Up tomorrow: a piano man takes a trip to Steeltown.
