Songoftheday 10/12/12 - I don't mind if you act your age, it suit me fine that you treat me like a child...

Sammy Hagar - "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy"
from the album Three Lock Box (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (two weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 13

Today's Song of the Day is by the red rocker himself, Sammy Hagar, who started out in the hard rock band Montrose before leaving for a solo career in 1975. His first solo album came out in 1976 and was a modest success, and with his third album in two years, Musical Chairs, Sammy got himself his first minor hit with "You Make Me Crazy" (foreboding, no?). The live album that followed that set, All Night Long, crossed over to the UK with his first top-40 hit there, "I've Done Everything For You", which would be evenutally covered by Rick Springfield for a top-10 hit of his own.

After switching from Capitol to Geffen records, Hagar released two big rock albums in 1982. The first, Standing Hampton, went on to sell over a million copies, and the first single, "I'll Fall In Love Again", was a #2 hit on the newly-christened rock radio chart. The next record, Three Lock Box, built on that, and the first single, "You're Love Is Driving Me Crazy", put all the pop music pieces together with enough edge and accessibility to make it on both pop and rock radio. It was written by Sammy and produced by Keith Olsen...

"Your Love..." was Hagar's biggest solo hit, making the top-20 on the pop chart and #3 on the rock chart.
