Songoftheday 10/19/12 - I admit that I was messing around playing macho man and being cool...

Ray Parker Jr. - "Bad Boy"
from the album Greatest Hits (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #35 (two weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 4

Today's Song of the Day is by R&B singer/musician Ray Parker Jr., who broke away from his group Raydio in 1981, and the following year released his first proper "solo" album, The Other Woman, which scored Ray a top-10 hit with the title track (click here) and a followup that was a top-40 hit as well, "Let Me Go".

To capitalize on this success, Ray released a greatest hits album at the end of that year that included "The Other Woman" as well as his hits with Raydio (though leaving off "Let Me Go" oddly). It also had two new songs, both which reached the R&B chart, and one that made the top-40 on pop radio. "Bad Boy", written by Parker, seems a logical end to the storylines told in his previous two hits, the cheating "The Other Woman" and the breaking up in "Let Me Go". This time, though, he wants back in, even coaxing the girl with the tease of "bring out the leather, baby'...

"Bad Boy" made the lower reaches of the top-40, while being pretty successful at R&B radio, going as high as #6 on that chart.

Up tomorrow: an early-80s multi-Grammy winner is feeling just fine.
