Rock Sweep: November 3, 2012...

Welcome back, it's time for the second installment of today's "chart sweeps" of the newest songs making the weekly music charts in Billboard magazine. Right now it's the latest on rock radio....

On the composite "Rock Airplay" chart, "I Will Wait" by Mumford & Sons stays on top for a fourth week.

The top debut this week is by Chicago hard rockers Chevelle, who made it to #2 on this chart with "Jars" in 2009. Their latest, "Same Old Trip" (the third single from Hats Off To The Bull), is at #43 here (it's already in the top-30 on Mainstream Rock radio). It's an Occupy-friendly rage into the ills of America today...

The alt-metal Deftones come in at #47 with their latest, "Tempest", also another Main-Rock top-30 hit already. They've had two song reach this chart since its inception in 2009, with "Diamond Eyes" making it to #14.

The third new song on this chart is power punk group the Offspring's "Turning Into You" at #50. It's the second US single from their latest album Days Go By. The title track made it to #4 here earlier this year...This new one also is in the Main-Rock top-30...

Meanwhile, over on the Modern Rock/Alternative radio format chart, Muse's "Madness" stays at #1 for a third non-consecutive week..

One new song enters the chart, and it's by the alt-rock group Switchfoot, with "The Original" at the bottom rung of #40. They've been in the top-10 here four times, with both "Meant To Live" and "Dark Horses" peaking at #5...

Over on the Mainstream Rock radio chart, "Chalk Outline" by Three Days Grace hangs on top for a seventh week...

The top new entry is by Hinder with "Save Me" at #33. They've gone to the top-10 five times so far in their career, with both their pop crossover "Lips Of An Angel" and the more glam-rock "Use Me". This new one returns them to their post-grunge roots...

...and at #39 is the California-based alt-metal group Trapt, who topped this list with their first two singles, "Headstrong" and "Still Frame" in 2002-3. "Bring It", from their upcoming effort Reborn, was released almost a year ago, and finally makes the chart, and it's quite worthy of the success..

On the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster radio") chart, Mumford & Sons' aforementioned "I Will Wait" commands the top spot for a ninth week...

The Rolling Stones make their way onto Triple-A radio at #18 with "Doom And Gloom". Their Exile In Main St. outtake "Plundered My Soul" made it to #10 here last year...and as much as sometimes I feel they can be a parody of themselves, I really dig this song, it takes no easy road yet is still accessible...

The Dave Matthews band follow up "Mercy" which went to #1 here, with "If Only" at #23. I'm very surprised they haven't had a better reception for their new album at all of rock radio, it's a really good effort. Maybe it's too "subdued" for the hard edge rock radio's worked into the ground. They also made the top here in 2009 with "Funny The Way It Is"...

On the Active Rock chart, "Chalk Outline" remains at #1 for a sixth week..

...and the aforementioned "Bring It" by Trapt is the only debut at #36. They took "Sound Off" to #13 two years ago.

Finally, on the Heritage Rock format list, "Chalk Outline" rules for a third week.

the aforementioned "Doom And Gloom" by the Stones is the big debut at #19. "Plundered My Soul" made it to #14 here.

Pop/punk superstars Green Day are at #21 with "Let Yourself Go". This single's predecessor, "Oh Love", peaked at #2 on this chart.

The last entry is by New Jersey heroes the Gaslight Anthem, with their song "45" at #25. The song made it to #11 on the alt-rock chart earlier this year..

That wraps it up for the rock side of the house...check back in an hour and a half and I'll bring you the latest on R&B radio. Rock on!
