Rock Sweep: October 13, 2012...
Hey gang, thanks for coming back, it's time for part two of this week's "chart sweeps" of the newest song making their way on to the weekly music charts in Billboard magazine. This time out it's the latest on rock radio...
On the composite Rock Songs chart, Mumford & Sons claims the top spot for the first week (and the first time) with "I Will Wait"...
The big new song on most of the rock world this week is the new track by grunge veterans Soundgarden, who are the highest debut not only on the Rock Songs list at #17, but four of the other sub-charts: Modern Rock (#29), Mainstream Rock (#29), Active Rock (#23), and Heritage Rock (#16). Earlier this year, the group's reunion single, "Live To Rise", peaked at #4 on Rock Songs, and the band has before this topped the Mainstream Rock list four times, starting from their 1994 breakthough hit "Black Hole Sun". Their new single, "Been Away Too Long", is from their upcoming November release King Animal...

The next entry also comes in on multiple lists, as it debuts at #46 on Rock Songs, #27 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and #24 on the Active Rock chart, is the new single by the heavy metal group Avenged Sevenfold from the Call Of Duty: Black Ops II video, "Carry On". The band scored a #1 Mainstream Rock hit last year with "So Far Away"...
Coming in at #47 on Rock Songs is Aerosmith, with "Lover Alot" form their upcoming album Music From Another Dimension. The first single from that set, "Legendary Child", peaked at #27 earlier in the summer....
The final single is by the Las Vegas band Imagine Dragons, whose debut single "It's Time" is still riding high at #4 this week on this chart. Their followup, "Radioactive", enters at #50...
Meanwhile, over on the Modern Rock/Alternative radio chart, Muse place their third single at #1 with "Madness"...
Besides the aforementioned Soundgarden track, there's one more song debuting on this list. It's by Canadian new wave/rock band Metric at #34 with "Breathing Underwater", their followup to "Youth Without Youth" which so far is their biggest hit to date, peaking at #15 earlier this year...
Over on the Mainstream Rock-specific chart, Three Days Grace enjoy a fourth week at #1 with "Chalk Outline"...
Besides the aforementioned Soundgarden and Avenged Sevenfold hits, there are two more entries on this list - the first is the latest by Green Day, who are back with the second single from their Uno! album, "Let Yourself Go", at #29. Their first, "Oh Love", peaked at #5 earlier this summer...
The other new song is the latest from Rush. the Canadian progressive rock legends who have tallied four #1 hits on the mainstream rock chart, the last being 1996's "Test For Echo". Their latest is the third track from their latest album Clockwork Angels to make this list, and "The Wreckers" comes in at #39...
On the Triple-A (album adult alternative, or "hipster rock") chart, Mumford & Sons' "I Will Wait" rack up a sixth week at #1...
There's one new song at this format, and it's Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, who pop in at #29 with "Runaway". Their previous single, "Never Go Back", made the top-10 here in June...
On Active Rock, Three Days Grace are on top for a third week with "Chalk Outline"...
Besides the Soundgarden and AS tracks, there are two new songs here - the first is by Texas southern metal band Hellyeah, with "Drink Drank Drunk" at #39...
The other debut is by Cincinnati glam-rock outfit Foxy Shazam, whose "I Like It" went to #5 on this chart this past spring. Their newest, "Welcome To The Church Of Rock And Roll", comes in at #40...
Finally, over on the Heritage Rock subchart, Shinedown's "Unity" rules for a tenth week, as it's followup, "Enemies", enters at #23...
The other debut is Linkin Park's "Lost In The Echo" at #25...
