Songoftheday 11/19/21 - When we first met stole my heart away, your love was incredible wonderful...

from the album Tracie (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #18 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 7

Today's song comes from singer Tracie Spencer, whose second album Make The Difference had scored four top ten hits on the R&B chart, with one of them, "This House", reaching the top ten on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 pop list in the spring of 1991. Tracie returned in 1999 with her third and final album for Capitol Records, Tracie. Sporting a more adult image to match her twenty-three year old self, the lead single from the record was "It's All About You (Not About Me)". Written by the production team of Soulshack and Karlin along with Heavynn Lumpkins, it's a break-up song where Tracie first sings about how good things were before quickly defining what's wrong now, as her lover cheats and lies and treats her mean. Meanwhile, the music video has Spencer straddling her man before she destroys all his stuff with her mind, it seems...

"It's All About You" became Tracie's third and final top-40 pop hit in August of 1999. The song also climbed to #6 on Billboard's R&B chart. Internationally, the single was a minor hit in the UK at #65 (matching her high of "This House"). The Tracie album, released in June of that year, went to #114 on the Billboard 200 sales tally, and #19 on their R&B Albums list.

Spencer's follow-up single, "Still In My Heart", was another Soulschack & Karlin production, and went to #36 on the R&B chart, while making it to #88 on the pop Hot 100. The ballad was remixed for the dancefloor, and put Tracie back on the Club Play chart at #39.

Since then, Tracie's been absent from the music scene, without even a social media presence.
