"She's So High" - Tal Bachman
from the album Tal Bachman (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 20

Today's song comes from Canadian singer/songwriter Tal Bachman, who is the son of Randy Bachman, Randy was originally in the 60s rock group the Guess Who as lead guitarist before starting his own project Bachman-Turner Overdrive, who reached the American Top-40 six times, including a trip to #1 in 1974 with "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet". Signing with Columbia Records, Tal released his self-titled debut album in the spring of 1999. The lead single, "She's So High", was a slice of power-pop written by Bachman who co-produced the track with Bob Rock. At first topping the charts in Canada, the song quickly made headway to the states for fans yearning for that time of pop/rock that was fading from the mainstream nonetheless. With lyrics describing his perfect girl, and comparing her to the greats like Cleopatra and Joan of Arc, Tal finally admits he's just too timid to approach her, and just leaves her on that pedestal, even when she approaches him...

"She's So High" became Tal's first and only top-40 pop hit in August of 1999, The song spent three weeks at #1 on Billboard magazine's older-skewing Adult Top-40 radio chart as well. Internationally, the single made the top ten in his native Canada (#3), Australia (#8), and New Zealand (#9), and reacheed the top-40 in Iceland (#29) and the UK (#30). The Tal Bachman album, released in April of that year, peaked at #124 on the Billboard 200 sales tally.

While a second single from the debut, "Strong Enough", made the top-40 in Canada at #31, it was ignored in the States. Third release "If You Sleep" did manage to climb onto Billboard's Adult Top-40 radio list at #35, while stalling at #61 in his homeland. Leaving Columbia, Bachman's second and so far last album, Staring Down The Sun, was released in 2004. Lead single "Aeroplane" flew to #20 on the Canadian singles chart.
