Songoftheday 10/6/21 - For as long as I live there will always be, a place you belong here beside me...
"You Won't Ever Be Lonely" - Andy Griggs
from the album You Won't Ever Be Lonely (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #28 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6
Today's song comes from Andy Griggs, who grew up in northern Louisiana, where he was a minister before starting a professional country music career. Signed to RCA Records, Griggs released his debut single "You Won't Ever Be Lonely" in November of 1998. The song, written by Griggs with Brett Jones, is a simple love song promising that no how bad things get, he would make sure she won't be alone with it. I guess you also can translate it to his ministry days by turning this into a more spiritual promise, but it was vague enough to put it in the secular realm. The production, by David Malloy and J. Gary Smith, recalls the adult pop of the early 1990s. The song became a hit on country radio, and because of that climbed into the pop top-40 as well...
"You Won't Ever Be Lonely" became Andy's first top-40 hit on Billboard magazine's "pop" Hot 100 chart in May of 1999. The song spent two weeks at #2 on their Country Singles list. Internationally, the single peaked at #11 on the Canadian Country chart. Griggs' debut album, You Won't Ever Be Lonely, was released in April of that year, and rose to #142 on the Billboard 200 sales tally, and #15 on the Country Albums list, going on to sell over a half million copies. Both Andy and the album will be back to this series.
