"Happily Ever After" - Case
from the album Personal Conversation (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #15 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13
Today's song comes from R&B singer Case, who reached the top ten on Billboard magazine's pop Hot 100 chart in the beginning of 1999 with his collaboration with Joe, "Faded Pictures". That song appeared on the soundtrack to the cop buddy movie Rush Hour, as well as on Case's second album Personal Conversation, which came out that spring. The second offering from the record was "Happily Ever After", written by Case with producer Chris Henderson. A song all about proposing marriage, it's not exceptional, but its adequately delivered, with Case's strong vocals over some sweet background harmonies and chiming bells make it better than what usually passes in that category...
"Happily Ever After" became Case's third top-40 pop hit in June of 1999. The song spent four weeks at #3 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart as well, while getting to #33 on their Rhythmic radio format list.
A third release from the Personal Conversation album, "Think Of You", was a minor R&B hit, peaking at #50. Case will be back to the series.
