Robbed Hit of the Week 12/3/12 - Rick Ocasek's "Something To Grab For"...

Ric Ocasek - "Something To Grab For"
from the album Beatitude (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #47

This week's "robbed hit" is by the lead singer of the new-wave group the Cars, Ric Ocasek, who released his first solo record after the success of the band's fourth studio album, Shake It Up, and the top-5 success of its title track. Bringing along only keyboardist Greg Hawkes from the band, his first record spawned the rock radio hit "Something To Grab For"...

While the song coasted to a big a hit on the rock chart, making it to #5, on pop radio it wasn't as warmly received, stalling below the top-40. It would take another record, the bands' biggest pop success, to give Ocasek enough exposure to carry a top-40 hit of his own.
