Brit Sweep: December 9, 2012...
The weekend is over, and it's time to check out the latest songs debuting on the official sales chart in Britain. This week newcomer Gabrielle Aplin jumps into the top spot with her cover of "The Power Of Love" , thanks to its placement on department store John Lewis' Christmas ads.
The top debut this week is Latin rapper Pitbull, with "Don't Stop The Party" featuring TJR at #16. It interpolates TJR's underground club hit "Funky Vodka" into a new jam, and even though it's technically recycled it seems like his freshest in a while. Pitbull's been to #1 twice in the UK, once as the lead artist (on "Give Me Everything") and once in a featured credit ("On The Floor" with Jennifer Lopez)...

Singer and X Factor mentor/judge Tulisa has her third solo single since leaving the UK hiphop trio N-Dubz, "Sight Of You", come in at #18. Her first, "Young", topped the British chart in the beginning of May...
Another British hip-hop artist, Angel, sees his third single "Time After Time" arrive at #41. Earlier this year he took "Wonderful" into the top-10 here...
Las Vegas rockers the Killers released their seventh holiday single to benefit the (RED) AIDS charity, and "I Feel It In My Bones" enters at #70. It's the "sequel" to "Don't Shoot Me Santa", which was their biggest so far, making it into the top-40 in 2007...
One of my favorite undiscovered artists in the States, British rapper Plan B, slides in at #78 with the third single from his awesome Ill Manors album, "Playing With Fire", featuring Labrinth. The man named Ben Drew has scored three top-10 singles in the UK, with the classic "She Said" reaching #3 in 2010....
Ellie Goulding is back at #82 with the second single from her sophomore album Halcyon, "Figure 8". Ellie's also been to the UK top-10 three times, with her cover of Elton John's "Your Song" (for an Xmas ad like this week's #1) made it to #2 in 2010...
The final new entry this week is by Robbie Williams, who had a huge comeback single with "Candy" which topped the British charts. His followup at #98 is already in the top-10 in airplay in this country, and its the flawless "Different"...
That does it for tonight...I'll return tomorrow with my Song of the Day, Candletime, this week's "Robbed Hit", and my Grammy Nomination recap, with even more jury-rigging! Cheers!
