Songoftheday 6/22/12 - There's a new place i've found, they're coming from miles around...

The Rolling Stones - "Going To A Go-Go"
from the CD Still Life (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #25 (three weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 5

Today's song of the day is by the legendary rock group the Rolling Stones. Coming off the success of their album Tattoo You, and their most-known 80's song "Start Me Up", they embarked on their American 1981 tour, which was the highest grossing tour of 1981, and one of the first to be corporately sponsored (by Jovan Musk perfume). The following year, the band released Still Life, their fourth live album, pulled from performances from the tour. There were renditions of two soul classics on the 10-cut disc, and the one released as the first single was a top-20 hit for Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1965, "Going To A Go-Go"...

The Stones put the song at the end of the first half of their setlist...

The song made both the American and British pop top-40 in 1982, and was a big hit on rock radio, making the top-5 there, like the LP on the albums chart.

Phil Collins also recorded a version on his retro CD Going Back a couple years ago...
