Songoftheday 9/25/19 -You know you're everything to me, and I could never see the two of us apart...

"I Live My Life For You" - Firehouse
from the album 3 (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's song of the day comes from the heavy metal band Firehouse, who had scored their second top ten pop hit in the autumn of 1992 with the second single from their second album, "When I Look Into Your Eyes". It took three years for the group to re-emerge with their third album 3 - three long years where the sonic landscape of radio had changed demonstrably, as grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana were dominating over Firehouse and the other hair-metal bands.  "I Live My Life For You", yet another love ballad written by lead singer C.J. Snare and guitarist Bill Leverty, the by-the-books slow number gave the metalheads a short new lease on life, especially produced by Ron Nevison, who helms Heart's 80s and 90s work...

"I Live My Life For You" became Firehouse's fourth and final top-40 pop hit in April of 1995. The song also climbed to #20 on Billboard magazine's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the single peaked at #17 in Canada.

Shortly after the band released another single, the catchy upbeat "Love Is A Dangerous Thing", which missed both the pop and the rock charts. That was followed by yet another power-ballad, "Here For You", which missed the pop and rock radio charts but peaked at #103 on  Billboard's "Bubbling Under the Hot 100" chart.

After a contract-fulfilling unplugged album Good Acoustics, the band left Epic Records for independent shores. Since then, they've released four studio albums and a live set, most recently Full Circle in 2011, which Epic ended up distributing. For that last one, original bassist Perry Richardson was replaced with Allen McKenzie, joining originals Snare, Leverty, and drummer Michael Foster.
