Robbed hit of the week 9/23/19 - Gillette's "Mr. Personality"...
"Mr. Personality" - Gillette
from the album On The Attack (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #42
This week's "robbed hit" comes from singer and rapper (Sandra) Gillette, who had been the featured artist on the hit by production team 20 Fingers in the novelty dance hit "Short Dick Man", which reached the top-20 on the American pop chart at the start of 1995. As the group was branching out into other acts like Max-A-Million, they decided to brand Gillette as the main artist for the album and subsequent singles she starred in (save for Germany and Poland). The next release would be another snotty comical put-down called "Mr. Personality". Written and produced by the 20 Fingers duo of Manny Mohr and DJ Carlos Rosario, the track takes another manly judgement (ugly guys claim to have better personalities) and spends three plus minutes cutting them down....
While "Mr. Personality" became a top-40 hit in Italy (#14), Belgium (#19), Germany (#22), New Zealand (#32), and Switzerland (#36), the single stalled two notches under the American pop Top-40 in April of 1995. It would be her final charting hit, and Gillette would retire from music.

There was a separate "dance version" made for the single...
and finally Gillette live on MTV's Spring Break...
