8 of the 80s: 11/15/12...

I'm back with another flashback to the 80s, and this time out it's back to 1986, the year Out of Africa wins best movie at the Oscars.

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - "Secret"
from the album Crush (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #63

The most "Pet Shop Boy-ish" of their songs, its genuine mainstream appeal didn't cross over to the States big, surprisingly.

Ozzy Osbourne - "Shot In The Dark"
from the album The Ultimate Sin (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #68

His diabolical nature is really comical now. This actually is such an accessible song that it's a shame it didn't make the top-40.

Jean Beauvoir - "Feel The Heat"
from the album Drums Along The Mohawk (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #73

His album obvs named for his distinctive bleached mane, Beauvoir brought some funky goodness to the rock world in 1986.

Eugene Wilde - "Don't Say No Tonight"
from the album Serenade (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #76

One of the best "booty-call" jams of 1986.

John Fogerty - "Eye Of The Zombie"
from the album Eye Of The Zombie (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #81

Creedence frontman ventures into dance-rock territory. Yeah, it happened.

Evelyn "Champagne" King - "Your Personal Touch"
from the album A Long Time Coming (A Change Is Gonna Come) (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #86

The artist of last week's "robbed hit" also should went farther with this stone cold jam.

Secret Ties - "Dancin' In My Sleep"
from the album All Through The Night (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #91

Lord I loved those indie HI-NRG records from the 80s.

The Steve Miller Band - "I Want To Make The World Turn Around"
from the album Living In The 20th Century (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #98

Miller's awesome #1 rock hit only barely grazed the pop chart, but deserved better for his return to his blues-rock roots.

Well, that's it for this trip, I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, candletime, and my top-100 tunes for the week. Thanks for dropping by!
