Songoftheday 11/7/12 - Take a look you can hardly breathe the air, look around it's a hard life everywhere...

Neil Diamond - "I'm Alive"
from the album Heartlight (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #35 (four weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 4

Today's Song of the Day is by Brooklyn-born singer/songwriter Neil Diamond, who closed out 1982 with his top-10 hit "Heartlight", an unofficial homage to the cinema alien E.T. His followup, "I'm Alive", was co-written by Neil and producer David Foster, and it was a jangly upbeat pop song...

The single would become Neil's last top-40 pop hit, though as usual he did really well on adult-contemporary (soft-rock) radio, peaking at #4 on that chart.

In 2008, American Idol winner David Cook performed the song on the show, and took the song to #99 on the US pop chart...

...and here is Neil performing the song live...

Up tomorrow: "Sandra Dee" is bound.
