Twostepcub's New Album Roundup 11/20/22...

Happy Sunday, everybody, it's time for this week's new album round-up, where I sample my picks of the best of the albums making their debut on Billboard magazine's sales charts as well as the same across the pond in the United Kingdom. You can check out yesterday's new singles recap by clicking here

Billboard 200 debut: #5
Choice cut: "Glimpse Of Us"

A short but bittersweet set mostly about lost love, this third release and breakthrough from the Japanese singer that formerly was known for doing the Harlem Shake in a bodysuit reveals layers of emotion.

Billboard 200 debut: #132
Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #5
Choice cut: "Everybody Walkin' This Land"

The second-biggest act that came from my all-time favorite TV singing competition, The Sing-Off, returns with a sometimes instrumentally-fleshed-out collection that includes new material as well as some nice finds.

Billboard 200 debut: #150
Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #7
Choice cut: "Cry Me A River"

A long lost live session from newly-signed protege and future legend Streisand finally gets a presentation to the public, and its simply revelatory. Any fan of the singer, and of American songcraft, needs to hear this record. Simply flawless.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #6
Choice cut: "Bad Habit"

Critic's darling Lacy from the alternative soul group the Internet finally achieves the mainstream success he deserves with this multi-genre opus that's compact and yet musically expansive with Brazilian and guitar rock sounds in the mix.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #13
Choice cut: "Love The Way You Lie"

A recap of the rap icon's second act, it eliminates the need for sifting through his prolific but spotty albums and gives the casual listener the transition from the drug-addled downs to the revitalized and matured highs.

Billboard Current Album Sales debut: #17
British Albums chart debut: #3
Choice cut: "Out Of My Head"

The Swedish indie-rock duo returns with their fifth studio release that's sweeping in scope and affecting in emotional impact. Their evolution in songcraft really shows here.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #35
Choice cut: "Honey"

A nice companion to the First Aid Kit album, this fifth set from the Brooklyn trio is produced by the National's Aaron Dressner, who helps them complete their transformation from alt-bluegrass act to an acoustic rock band like his work with Taylor Swift from the other direction.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #36
Choice cut: "Dose"

The American version of Rag N' Bone Man delivers a short collection of songs, and it's a nice set-up for the soulful tattooed teddy bear, including this retro number.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #39
Choice cut: "Got So High"

Taylor Momsen, one of the few actors that have credible music, releases an odds-and-ends collection with acoustic takes, new mixes, and remakes for a nice interstitial point in her career.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #45
Choice cut: "Laughing River"

One-half of the Avett Brothers celebrates the work of obscure folk music master Brown in this ten-song stripped down disc. Seek the originals, but this is a nice interpretation of Brown's highlights.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #48
Choice cut: "Alpha Zulu"

The French modern-rock band is back with their lucky seventh studio set and they haven't changed much, though the neo-disco influences are stronger this go-around.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #54
Choice cut: "Wait Too Long"

I guess you might call this "yacht disco", as the Virginia Beach group combines the guitars and bass of disco with an ethereal backdrop not unlike 10cc in their fifth record. A nice Sunday afternoon in the house doing chores listen.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #56
Choice cut: "Moonpeople"

The Canadian heavy metal veteran from his old band Strapping Young Lad and his own band with a sprawling three-disc solo set filled with much more melodic but not subdued material that is rooted in 80s pop and 2000s alt-rock. It doesn't get boring in all its songs.

Billboard Current Albums Sales chart: #66
Choice cut: "Big Changes"

The lead singer of the 90s alternative rock hitmakters Toad The Wet Sprocket comes out with another solo record with easy to swallow reflections.

Billboard Current Albums Sales chart: #70
Choice cut: "My Babe"

The indie rock band gives the reins over to British reggae icon Adrian Sherwood to reimagine their latest Grammy-nominated album Lucifer On The Sofa into a completely different entity, with sounds coming in from all directions, a headphone listener's delight.

Billboard Current Albums Sales debut: #80
Choice cut: "Red Right Hand"

The alternative rock icon congregates three discs off scattered yet poignant material from throughout her career. Maybe not essential but certainly of interest and a mind-provoking listen.

British Albums Chart debut: #22
Choice cut: "F*ck Me (I Didn't Know How To Say)"

The legacy of PJ Harvey embodies the six-song disc from this all-women band who take all the chances on their first major release.
