Robbed hit of the week 5/13/19 - The Cranberries' "Dreams"...

"Dreams" - The Cranberries
from the album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #42

This week's "robbed hit" comes from the Irish alternative rock band the Cranberries, who landed their first and biggest pop hit in the beginning of 1994 with "Linger". Building on this success, the group re-released their debut single "Dreams", which originally was a moderate hit on rock radio, climbing to #15 on the Modern Rock chart in Billboard magazine. This time radio took notice of the song written by the late lead singer Delores O'Riordan and guitarist Noel Hogan, and produced by Stephen Street, who helmed much of the Smiths' classic work...

While the song did climb into the top-40 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart at #33, so many fans bought the album instead that sales lagged, leaving "Dreams" to stop right below the top-40 in May of 1994. Internationally, the single peaked at #9 in their native Ireland, and reached the top-40 in the UK (#27), Canada (#27), and Australia (#30).
