Songoftheday 5/5/19 - I thought I knew you thought that I knew you well, we had a rhythm but I guess you never can tell...
"Misled" - Celine Dion
from the album The Colour Of My Love (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #23 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9
Today's song of the day comes from Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion, whose 1993 album The Colour Of My Love had already spun off two pop hits in America with the duet from Sleepless In Seattle with Clive Griffin, "When I Fall In Love", and the #1 hit remake of "The Power Of Love" in the beginning of 1994. Her follow-up to that chart-topping ballad would be a rare uptempo dance-pop number from her, "Misled". Written by Peter Zizzo and Jimmy Bralower, and produced by Taylor Dayne's go-to guy, Ric Wake, the song serves up a bit of blowback to a lover gone wrong...
"Misled" became the third top-40 pop hit from The Colour Of Love in June of 1994. The song also climbed to #15 on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. The club remixes of the song helped it land her biggest dance hit, spending two weeks at #1 on Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play tally. Internationally, the single peaked at #4 in Canada, and reached the top-40 in the UK (#15), Spain (#26), and New Zealand (#31).
Celine's next release from the album, the ballad "Think Twice", went to #21 on the Adult Contemporary chart, but stalled down at #95 on the pop Hot 100 in America (it did much better elsewhere, topping the charts in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium, and going to #2 in Australia and Denmark). That was followed by the slow waltz of "Only One Road", which again got to #27 on the Adult Contemporary chart while slipping at #93 in America's pop Hot 100. It also was a bigger hit elsewhere with #8 in both the UK and Ireland, #11 in Iceland, #15 in Canada, and #17 in Belgium. Lastly, the lovely ballad "Next Plane Out", one of my favorites of hers, was a minor hit in Australia at #61.
