Today's Song of the Day is by bar-band made good Huey Lewis & The News, whose third album Sports had already generated three top-10 hits with "Heart And Soul", "I Want A New Drug", and "The Heart of Rock & Roll". For their fourth single the group released the breezy summertime hit "If This Is It", which came complete with a beachtime video...

"If This Is It" became Huey and the boys' fourth top-10 single from Sports in September of 1984, and the third in a row to peak at #6 on the pop chart. It did go one rung higher on adult-contemporary (easy-listening), becoming their first hit on that format. If even made the rock list at #19. The record also reached the top-40 in both Australia and New Zealand "Down Under", and was their first-ever top-40 single in the UK.

And for all their "squarish" quirkiness, this is one of the best and 'real'-est 'love in trouble' songs in the pop era.
