Aussie Sweep: October 23, 2013...

G'day mates, I'm ready to head back Down Under to check out the songs making the official singles charts in Australia this week, as Katy Perry grabs ahold of #1 for an eighth non-consecutive week with "Roar"...

Pitbull is back on the chart again with the highest entry of the week, as his collaboration with trash-pop queen Ke$ha, "Timber", is at #6. It sounds like they heard Avicii's folk-rave "Wake Me Up!", and commissioned a room of people to write a soundalike song in two days...

Pop group Justice Crew, from Sydney, won the fourth season of Australia's Got Talent, and since then have reached the top-40 four times, with "Boom Boom" topping the chart last year. They're back at #15 with their fifth, "Everybody"...

Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris returns at #17 with his newest, "Under Control", featuring Swedish mixer Alesso and British synthpop duo Hurts....

James Arthur, who won the last season of the X Factor in Britain, arrives at #22 with "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You"...

As the X Factor Australia is reaching its climax, it's surprising that of the five acts that were left when the chart was compiled, only one made the top 100 this time out. That would be Taylor Henderson, as his version of Augie March's "One Crowded Hour" enters at #38. The original went to #29 in 2006..

Eminem's third track from his forthcoming Marshall Mathers 2 set, "Rap God", slags in at #40, as his "Survival" leaps to #18 and "Berzerk" drops to #31...

The second of Justin Bieber's one-off singles, "All that Matters", sneaks in at #41. Last week's "Heartbreaker" came in at #30 and plummets to #76 this week...

The rapping trio of YG, Jeezy, and Rich Homie Quan triangulate at #69 with "My Nigga"....

Canadian rapper Classified debuts at #82 with "Inner Ninja" featuring British X Factor runner-up Olly Murs. The artist went to #5 in his homeland with David Myles providing the vocals...

I'm not sure why, but Cher lands at #91 with her single from the movie Burlesque in 2010, "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me"...

The final entry at #93 is American country trio the Band Perry with "If I Die Young"...

That'll do for this musical outback trip..I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, 7 of the 70s and 8 more from the 80s. Cheers!
