Brit Sweep: October 20, 2013...

Hey peeps, the weekend is coming to a close, and it's time to check out the songs making their way on to the just-released official sales chart in Great Britain this week, as OneRepublic climbs back to their second non-consecutive week at #1 with "Counting Stars"...

The highest entry of the week belongs to Lawson with their fifth top-10 single out of six tries from their Chapman Square album and reboot. "Juliet" ties their loftiest chart position with "Taking Over Me" from last year...

Well Eminem is back at #5 with the third preview track from his upcoming Marshall Mathers 2 album, and the second to reach the UK.  Unfortunately it's with "Rap God", his rage track with homophobic lyrics that doesn't debit a 40 year old who still bleaches his hair. Overcompensating much? (FWIW his official single "Berzerk" drops from #2 to #7...)

London musician (Mark) Wilkinson debuts at #8 with his first hit "Afterglow". I'm really digging this music video...

The fourth entry in the top ten at #10 is Australian hip hop artist Iggy Azalea with "Change Your Life" with rapper T.I. It's her first to reach this level after placing "Work" and "Bounce" in the top-20...

Justin Bieber is back with the second of his one-off singles, "All That Matters", at #20. Last week's "Heartbreaker", came in at #14, and drops to #75 this week...

Cher returns to the top-40 in Britain for the first time in twelve years (since 2001's "The Music's No Good Without You" went to #8) as "I Hope You Find It" enters at #25. The song was originally a single for Miley Cyrus, who "bubbled under" the American Hot 100 with it...

Alternative rock band Don Broco, from the eastern town of Bedford, debut at #39 with their first charting single, and my "Brit Pick of the Week", "You Wanna Know"...

A close second for my "pick" was Eliza Doolittle with the second single from her In Your Hands album, "Let It Rain". The first, "Big When I Was Little" (a former "pick") topped off at #12 earlier this year...

British dance duo Disclosure's album Settle is on my shortlist for favorite newcomer album of the year, and the fifth single from the set, "Help Me Lose My Mind", arrives at #79. It features another fave, London Grammar, with the vocal work. Earlier this year they took "White Noise" to #2...

American singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw lands his third single on the top 100 as "Best I Ever Had" comes in at #80. His first, "I Don't Want To Be", went to #27 here in 2004...

Iconic new wave band Depeche Mode are in at #81 with the third release from their Delta Machine album, "Should Be Higher". "Heaven" went to #60 from the set..

The final entry of the week at #88 is from the Glee cast, who mourned the passing of Cory Monteith and by extension star quarterback Finn, and character Santana (Naya Rivera)'s rendition of the Band Perry's "If I Die Young" nearly matches the #82 peak of the original..

That's all for tonight...I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, part two of this week's "album sweep", and my "robbed hit" of the week. Cheers!
