Disco Dessert 7/5/19 - "I Will Survive" from Gloria Gaynor...
"I Will Survive" was the iconic disco hit for singer Gloria Gaynor. Appearing on her album Love Tracks, the song notoriously was released as the "B-side" (or "flip side") of her first single from the album, a cover of the Righteous Brothers' oldie "Substitute". That bombed, only managing to "bubble under the pop Hot 100" chart at #107. But when radio DJs started playing that other side, the response was massive - and "I Will Survive" ended up going to #1 on the pop chart in America and the UK, and peaked at #4 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. On their National Disco Action Top 40 chart, the Love Tracks album charted as a single unit, with "I Will Survive", "Substitute", "Anybody Wanna Party?", and "I Said Yes" picked out to list on the chart. The record spent three weeks at #1 and 27 weeks on the chart. It remains possibly the most celebrated disco anthem ever created.
