Soul Sweep: September 6, 2014...

We're at the "hump" of today's "chart sweeps", with the latest songs to make some of Billboard magazine's weekly singles charts, and this time I'm serving up the newest R&B songs on the radio...

On the main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, singer Jeremih scores his second #1 single with "Don't Tell 'Em" featuring YG. Back in 2009 he went to #1 with his first lead-artist hit "Birthday Sex". It's odd there still is no official video for this one yet!

Tennessee rapper Snootie Wild has the big debut at #42 with "Made Me" featuring K Camp. Meh. Posturing. And can we have a moratorium on children's piano noises?

The third single from singer/actress Jennifer Hudson's JHUD album, "It's Your World" featuring R. Kelly, comes in at #48. It's nice that she found disco again, and it's my "Soul Pick of the Week"...

Rapper Yo Gotti pops in at #50 with "Errrbody". He's had two top-20 hits here, with "Act Right" from his last album reaching #18. This one addresses the suburban "poseurs" quite comically.

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel, Kem climbs to #1 with "It's You". It's his third time at the top of this list, following "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Why Would You Stay?"...

As Michael Jackson's "Love Never Felt So Good" drops from #1 to #3, the next single from the late icon, "A Place With no Name", arrives at #27. While the former harkens back to his Off The Wall days, this one sounds picked from the Dangerous era, with outtakes from videos like "In The Closet" helping the matter...

Lastly, on the Rhythmic format, whose stations add more dance music to their playlists, the aforementioned "Don't Tell Em" moves to #1, his third on this cart after "Birthday Sex" and "Down On Me"...

Meghan Trainor crosses over with her retro-pop debut hit "All About That Bass" at #30...

Singer/songwriter Trey Songz is in at #31 with "Touchin' Lovin'" with a cameo from Nicki Minaj. It follows "Foreign", which peaked at #24. This is kind of what Usher did years ago...

Beyonce is back at #35 with "***Flawless". The original features Nigerian writer/speaker Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, while a remix substitutes the less literary Nicki Minaj...But oh, the video. Like Abercrombie & Fitch's version of punk.

Pitbull teams up with singer John Ryan at #37 with his pop hit "Fireball". Will the world ever tire of that man? Is there that many wedding receptions?

And at #40 is Maroon 5 with their former top-10 pop hit "Maps"...

I'll return in 90 with the latest on country radio...groove on!
