Stevie Wonder - "Go Home"
from the album In Square Circle (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #10 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11
Today's Song of the Day comes from Motown legend Stevie Wonder, who's mid-80s output was growing musically kind of stale though very successful, and even topped the chart with the treacly "I Just Called To Say I Love You" and the spastic cheating sing-song of "Part-Time Lover". The rest of the In Square Circle, the albums featuring the later hit, was chock-full of more worthy nuggets, and the next single from the set, "Go Home", was a perfect example. A free-flowing narrative accented by a killer synth-bass groove and horns aplenty, the single was the funkiest thing he's done in years...
"Go Home" became the second top-10 pop hit from In Square Circle in America in February of 1986. The track also topped both the Dance Club Play and Adult Contemporary charts in Billboard, as well as stopping at #2 on their R&B list. Internationally the song was a minor hit in Britain, climbing to #67.
