French Sweep: August 26, 2014...

I'm ready to head across the Atlantic to check out the songs making the official singles chart in France this week, as Lilly Wood & The Prick rack up a sixth week at #1 with the Robin Schulz remix of "Prayer In C"...

The top debut of the week comes from Algerian/French rapper Lacrim, who almost makes the top-10 by a notch with "Pronto". It does become his highest rank though at #11 out of his five French top-40 hits this year...

Meanwhile, another rapper, Soprano, lands at #31 with "Cosmo". As a featured artist on Magic System's "Cherie Coco" he went to #2 in 2011...

Singer/songwriter Calogero, from the southeastern town of Échirolles, comes in at #34 with "L'Eclipse". In 2008 he almost topped the chart at #2 with "Les Debacles Des Sentiments" with Stanislas...

French R&B singer Ben L'Oncle Soul returns at #53 with "So Hard To Find"...


Ariana Grande enters at #73 with "Break Free" featuring producer/remixer Zedd. It follows her "Problem", which made it to #14 in this country...

British art-rock band alt-J arrive at #93 with "Every Other Freckle". Last year they had a top-ten hit with "Matilda"...

Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea teams up with Rita Ora at #95 with "Black Widow". Her international smash "Fancy" actually only went to #21 in this country...

The last debut of the week at #96 is another surprisingly low entry, just as Iggy's "Fancy", is the other possible "song of the summer" for 2014, "Rude" from Magic!. I guess the French aren't impressed with our choices...
