Tears For Fears - "Head Over Heels"
from the album Songs From The Big Chair (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12
Today's Song of the Day is from the British new wave band Tears For Fears, whose second album Songs From The Big Chair had broken them big in the U.S., scoring a pair of #1 pop hits with "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" and "Shout". Their third single from the record, "Head Over Heels", was a more lighthearted departure from their emo-tinged fare, and even the video found them frolicking in the library...
"Head Over Heels" became the group's third consecutive top-5 hit in the U.S. in November of 1985, while also climbing to the top-10 on both the Mainstream Rock (#7) and Adult Contemporary (#5) radio charts in Billboard magazine. In their native England, where it was the fourth single released from the album, "Head Over Heels" stopped short of the top-10 at #12. Internationally, the single made the top-10 in Canada, Poland, and Ireland. It also is the one I seem to hear the most on oldies stations, perhaps because of its easy-going timeless nature.
