Brit Sweep: June 15, 2014...

The weekend is coming to a close, so it's time to cross the Atlantic to check out the songs making the official sales chart in Britain this week...

The top-selling single of the week belongs to X Factor finalist Ella Henderson, who may have come in sixth on the show, but wins in the end by topping the chart with "Ghost", my "Brit Pick of the Week".  She appeared on The X Factor UK in its raucous and scandal-filled season nine, the one that saw James Arthur eventually taking the prize, and going to #1 with "Impossible"...

Dutch trance music master Tiesto has his second consecutive top-10 hit in a row as "Wasted" featuring vocalist Matthew Koma becomes his biggest hit yet at #3. It follows "Red Lights" which went to #6 in the UK...

British comic icon Rik Mayall sadly passed away this past Monday at the too-young age of 56. In his memory, Brits have been buying his 2010 World Cup single "Noble England", where he recites a passage from Shakespeare's Henry V with some word changes over a rousing musical backdrop. The single went nowhere back in 2010, but now leaps on to the chart in time for the Brazil World Cup at #7. As part of the TV comedy troupe The Young Ones, Rik took part on a #1 hit previously, backing up Cliff Richard on his remake of "Living Doll" in 1987...

Skepta, a "grime" style rapper from London, returns at #21 with "That's Not Me" featuring JME. This is his seventh time in the top-40; he made it all the way to #3 as a featured artist on Wiley's "Can You Hear Me (AYAYA)" in 2012...

Kylie Minogue's non-album single "Crystallize" pops on to the chart at #60. Fans donated to the One Note For Cancer fund for being named in the video for charity....

Jennifer Lopez dances in at #63 with "First Love". She's been to the top of the charts in this country three times, with "Love Don't Cost A Thing", "Get Right", and "On The Floor"...

New Zealander Lorde covers the classic Tears For Fears track "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" for the movie Divergent, and it enters the chart at #65. The original didn't top the chart here like in America, but peaked at #2 in 1985...

After their first three singles went top-three in the UK, British boy-band the Vamps start out more modestly with their fourth, "Somebody To You" featuring Demi Lovato, at #87...

Besides Mayall's track and the many reissues of past World Cup hits in the UK, a new one credited to the "USA Soccer Guy" makes the chart as "Kick That Soccer Ball" comes in at #92, most likely to poke fun at our country's insistence on calling the sport "not football"...

American psychedelic rock sisters The Pierces enter at #93 with "Kings". It follows "Believe In Me", which went to #66 in April. This is The Awesome...

The final debut of the week is another World Cup - themed record, as Disco Mister ask them to "Bring It Home"...

That's all for tonight...cheers!
