French Sweep: June 17, 2014...

It's time to cross back over the Atlantic to check out the songs making their debut on the top-100 singles of the official French chart, as rapper Black M leaps five spots to #1 with "Sur Ma Route", becoming his first to top the chart...

The highest debut of the week belongs to another French rapper, Niro, with "Perdu" ("Lost") at #23. It's his second consecutive top-40 hit and highest rank to date...

Lana Del Rey jumps in at #33 with "Brooklyn Baby", from her just-released album Ultraviolence. It's the third track from the set to make the top-40 here, after "West Coast" and "Shades Of Cool"...

Former tennis star turned pop singer Yannick Noah has the biggest-selling album in this country this week with Combats Ordinaires, and from the record his song "On Court" ("In Short") lands at #47. Back in 2007 he even topped the singles chart with "Aux arbres citoyens" ("Citizens for Trees")...

Singer/songwriter Irma, born in the central African nation of Cameroon, returns at #54 with "Hear Me Out", one of two songs making their debut from her second album Faces, and my "French Pick of the Week".  She had a huge hit in 2011 with "I Know", which went to #2 in France (and even made my personal chart)...

Another act charting two new songs this week is Christine and the Queens (aka singer/songwriter Heloise Letissier from the city of Nantes) from her top-ten album Chaleur Humaine. First at #60 is "Saint Claude"...

American model and singer Porcelain Black (Alaina Beaton) is back at #62 with "One Woman Army". She's had top-10 club hits in the U.S., but this is her first time on the list in France...

Élodie Frégé, the winner of the singing competition show Star Academy here ten years ago, pops in at #67 with "Il Pleut" ("It Rains"). She made the top-10 back in her winning year with "Viens jusqu'à moi" ("Come To Me")...

As American neo-metal band Linkin Park ready their new album The Hunting Party for release today, two songs from it enter the charts in France. First at #76 is "Wastelands"...

Comic musician Sebastien Patoche went to #2 last year with "Quand il pète il troue son slip", and now he's back at #78 with "On Va La Foutre Au Fond" ("We Will Fuck The Bottom"?).... Oh boy...

The second entry from Linkin Park is "Rebellion" featuring Daron Malakian from System of a Down at #83...

Rapper Jul enters at #93 with "çà me dégoute" ("This Disgusts Me"). His last, "Brigante'", went to #20...

La Bande A Renaud comes in at #96 with "Dès que le Vent Soufflera" ("When The Wind Blows"). "La Bande" is a collection of artists paying tribute to the French singer/songwriter (there's no video clip available, boo!)...

Dutch trance music king Tiesto is in at #97 with "Wasted" featuring Matthew Koma on vocals. It's only his second time on the chart; he went to #85 in 2012 with "We Own The Night" with Wolfgang Gartner...

Irma's second debuting song at #98 is "Save Me"....

The final new entry of the week brings us back to Christine and the Queens at #99 with "Paradis Perdus" ("Paradise Lost")...

I'll be back later on with the newest over the border in Germany...
