Rock Sweep: February 2, 2013...


It's time for part two of today's "chart sweeps" of the latest songs making it on to the weekly music charts at Billboard magazine, and this time it's the latest on rock radio.

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, Muse's "Madness" holds on to #1 for a seventh non-consecutive week.

The top debut this week at #46 is newcomers the Neighbourhood with "Sweater Weather". Grade: C+

At #47 is L.A. indie rockers the Airborne Toxic Event with "Timeless".  They previously took "Changing" to #12 in 2011...Grade: C


Spiritual rock band P.O.D. are in at #48 with their latest, "Higher", which follows their top-20 hit "Lost In Forever". Grade: B-


The last entry here is by singer ZZ Ward with her first Rock Songs hit, "Put The Gun Down", from her excellent Till The Casket Drops album. Grade: A-


Over on the Modern Rock/Alternative format, Muse reigns for a 16th week, placing it in a tie for third place for longest stay at #1 (and only a week behind their own "Uprising". At the same time, their follow-up single "Panic Station" is the top new entry at #30. Grade: B+ (NSFW)


Alice In Chains return at #37 with their latest, "Hollow". The group had their only #1 hit on this chart with "Check My Brain" from their last album Black Gives Way To Blue, their first with new lead singer William DuVall...Grade: B


British indie-pop group Foals have their first hit at #38 with "Inhaler". Grade: B-


Meanwhile, on the Mainstream Rock radio format list, Soundgarden stay at #1 for a seventh week with "Been Away Too Long"...

The top new entry at #35 is by alt-metal band Sevendust with "Decay". They have had three previous top-10 singles on this chart, with "Unraveling" reaching #7 in 2010. Grade: B-


 The other debut is by Welsh heavy metal outfit Bullet For My Valentine, with "Riot" at #40. The group's biggest hit here so far has been 2010's "Your Betrayal", which made it to #5. Grade: B (NSFW)


On the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format chart, Icelandic band Of Monsters And Men get their second #1 with "Mountain Sound"...

The single debut this week at this format is the return of David Bowie with "Where Are We Now?", his first entry on this chart. Grade: A-


At the Active Rock format, Danish rockers Volbeat leap from #5 to #1 with "Heaven Nor Hell", their third consecutive chart-topper on this list, while the two new entries are the aforementioned "Decay" by Sevendust at #33 and "Riot" by Bullet For My Valentine at #38..

Finally, on the Heritage Rock chart, Three Days Grace hold on for a thirteenth non-consecutive week with "Chalk Outline"...

The top debut on this list is the aforementioned "Higher" by P.O.D. at #22...

The other entry is by a "true" heritage act, the Rolling Stones, at #25 with "One More Shot". They already have the former top-10 "Doom and Gloom" still on the chart at #14...Grade: C+
