Brit Sweep: January 6, 2013...
Hey gang...it's time to close the weekend out with the newest music making the official music chart over in Britain this week, and since today's list tracks the after-holiday week, unsurprisingly it's devoid of new music since nobody is releasing music till the new year and kids are stocking up their new music devices with the biggest hits of last year. As such there's only two records spending their first week on the top-100 singles, while the top seller is X Factor winner James Arthur with "Impossible" for a third non-consecutive week...
Jumping in at #86 is American rock group Haim, formed by three sisters from Los Angeles who opened for Florence & The Machine on their UK tour. Their first hit "Don't Save Me" is back on the chart at #51, and "Forever" joins in, and is a worthwhile chunk of un-angsty and funky grrrl-pop.. Grade: B-

The other entry right at the bottom at #100 is drum and bass artist Matrix, with "Matrix" featuring Furutrebound and Baby Blue. Under his real name James Quinn, he has one/half of house act Goldtrix, who had a top-6 pop hit in 2002 with "It's Love (Trippin')". The new track is entertaining but by-the-numbers EDM music. Grade: C+.
That does it for tonight....tomorrow I'll have another Song of the Day, Candletime, and this weeks "robbed hit". Cheers!
