Songoftheday 8/1/14 - Do you feel the same connection, make it right some way some how...

Sheena Easton - "Do It For Love"
from the album Do You (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #29 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's Song of the Day is by Scottish singer Sheena Easton, who's previous album A Private Heaven gave her a more seductive image and got her two top-10 pop hits in America in return with "Strut" and "Sugar Walls". But by the next year it was difficult getting play on the radio as a woman in dance-pop with Madonna ruling the roost, so Sheena enlisted Nile Rodgers of Chic (who produced Madonna's Like A Virgin album) to helm her next effort, Do You. The first single from the project, "Do It For Love", definitely feels like the artist is trying to catch up with Madonna's sound and delivery, though it's not a perfect match...

"Do It For Love" became a top-40 hit for Sheena in December of 1985, while also making the top-40 on Billboard's dance club play (#21) and adult contemporary (#39) charts. It fizzled internationally, only showing up as a minor hit in Canada (#64). It would take a Prince to get her back on track in a couple of years.

Up tomorrow: a "visible" Minnesotan commands you to shimmy.
