Songoftheday 10/5/13 - I don't know too much but I know love the way I've been touched...

Jermaine Jackson - "Dynamite"
from the album Jermaine Jackson (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #15 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's Song of the Day is by Jermaine Jackson, whose last Motown hit "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" came right before his brother Michael took over the world with his Thriller album. And while Jermaine, Michael, and his brothers were enjoying a top-10 hit with "State Of Shock", Jermaine released his first album with Arista Records in 1984. The first American single was the lite dance-pop single "Dynamite", written by Andrew Goldmark with Bruce Roberts and produced by the singer with label honcho Clive Davis, and it brought him back to pop radio. He also went with a big-budget video directed by Bob Giraldi hoping to capture the MTV audience...

Oh, lord. The era of epically unintentionally campy videos. I blame the cocaine.

"Dynamite" became Jermaine's fifth solo top-40 pop hit in September of 1984, while also reaching #8 on the R&B chart (his twelfth to make the top-40 in that format).

Up tomorrow: The piano man basically says "get a room".
