Songoftheday 10/1/13 - Dancing in the dark to the radio of love...

Peter Wolf - "Lights Out"
from the album Lights Out (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #12 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's Song of the Day is by singer Peter Wolf, who left the J. Geils Band in 1983 shortly after their last top-40 hit "I Do". He released his first solo album, Lights Out, the following year, and the title track, written by Wolf with soul singer/songwriter Don Covay (whose first top-40 single, "Mercy Mercy", featured a then-unknown Jimi Hendrix), and produced by electro funk maestro Michael Jonzun, and it brought back the party he was known for in his old band...

"Lights Out" became Peter's first solo top-40 hit in September of 1984, while doing really well on rock radio (reaching #6) and the dance clubs (peaking at #11 in Billboard).

I admit I wasn't a fan of this initially, but over time, its quirkiness has grown on me a little. Just a little.
