twostepcub's music chart for September 17, 2021...

Friday's here, and it's time again to run down my top 100 "hit" tunes from the previous week.  Olivia Rodrigo makes it to the #1 spot for a second time, while Girl In Red (pictured above), pulls herself into the top five. Former big hits from Jason Aldean, AJR, Leon Bridges, Jazmine Sullivan, and Thomas Rhett drop off my chart, while songs from Elton John/Dua Lipa, The Record Company, and Shouse make some of the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red). And right below the list, everything is Spotify-playlisted for five 1/2 hours of the biggest in pop, country, rock, R&B, and dance. Something's rotten in the state of Trinidad...

Along with two songs returning to the chart, there are nine songs making their debut (highlighted in blue), and if you click on any of them, you'll connect to that artist's official website for more info on them. And here they are on video, after the break...

The top debut of this week goes to hard rock band The Pretty Reckless, who join forces with former Soundgarden members Matt Cameron and Kim Thayll at #73 for "Only Love Can Save Me Now". It's the third song from Taylor Momsen's band's Death By Rock & Roll album to make my list...

Country music A-lister Kenny Chesney is back with another track from his Here and Now album, "Knowing You", at #77...

Geordie Shore DJ Joel Corry assembles fellow DJ/producer Jax Jones, singer/songwriter Charli XCX, and rapper Saweetie for "Out Out" at #89. It's now Corry's fifth song to make my list, and this one samples Stromae's classic "Alors En Danse"...

German alternative-folk duo Milky Chance return with their altitude-influenced "Colorado" at #90...

Metal band Chevelle take their second track from their Niratias album, "Mars Simula", to #93...

Singers MAX and Ali Gatie pair up at #94 for "Butterflies"...

Nigerian singer Wizkid, who was last seen here way back in 2016 as a featured artist on Drake's "One Dance", makes his lead-artist debut at #96 with his #1 R&B hit "Essence" featuring Justin Bieber and fellow Nigerian singer Tems...

As Ed Sheeran finally drops from the top with "Bad Habits", another song from his upcoming album =, "Visiting Hours", enters at #97...

The final newbie of the week at #99 has DJ/producers Alesso and Marshmello recruit British indie-rock artist James Bay for "Chasing Stars"...
